Acton Bridge WI - January 2015 Report

Tea and Cake

"Enjoying a chat, a cup of tea and some homemade cake is a very important part of WI meetings"

The new chairs were all in use as the members of Acton Bridge WI and their visitors reunited after Christmas to share the usual excellent cakes, tea, coffee, and chat with the first of the 2015 speakers. The air was perfumed as Emma Wilkinson, from the Cheshire Beauty Barn at Davenports Tea Rooms, Bartington, gave an introduction to the world of Aromatherapy, and passed around examples from the range of possible top, middle and bottom notes used to blend her different fragrant oils. A practitioner for over 20 years, she explained the need for careful consultation between therapist and client before using these powerful oils to alleviate all sorts of problems, which can range from stress to skin complaints, especially as this is not a regulated industry.

Before hearing Emma, members had also looked at the Budget for the year with the Treasurer, Jane Evans, who explained that no fund raising should be necessary after last year's successes. A number of activities and outings have been planned whilst members plan to mark the national Centenary of the foundation of the WI organisation with a Centenary Autumn Fest on 19 September with soup, a Ploughman's Lunch and Picklefest of autumn preserves.

All visitors are very welcome at the next meeting, which will be held in Acton Bridge Parish Rooms as usual at 7.30pm on Tuesday 10 February. Jeff Clarke will be talking about "Birds and Migration." Details of all activities can be found on the website at www.actonbridge.org/abwihome.htm.
