Welcome to Acton Bridge Women's Institute

July 2014 Report from Acton Bridge W.I.

Stephen Shakeshaft was the speaker at the July meeting, and his talk was entitled 'Chester Uncovered'. His very name sounds historic so the blue badge guide had no trouble in setting the scene of discovering many reminders of Chester's historic past. From being the largest Roman fortress in Britain, with its fortified walls and its unique mediaeval 'rows,' Chester can still boast many historic buildings such as the Cathedral, the Bear & Billet, Sedan House, and the Alms houses. The Victorian clock tower is the second most photographed clock tower in the country. The slides and speaker's thorough knowledge of the city made for a fascinating talk.

One member brought in her old ceramic doll, which had been in pieces a few months ago, but after the talk by Paul and Gloria Steggel, who run a Doll's Hospital, the doll has been restored and was looking beautiful again with a new wig, eyelashes and clothes.
