Background
The Boundary Committee has decided that there will be 75 councillors within CW&C as against 72 at present. They also have the target of making all votes equal, ie representation per councillor being approximately equal, this is 3400 voters per Councillor. The representation could be by a single member ward with 3,400 voters, two members with 6,800 voters or three members for 10,200 voters.
There are three options.
1. Stay as we are along with other rural villages in the present ward.
2 Join in with Weaverham and Cuddington in a new ward.
3 Contact other villages such as Lower Whitley and Little Leigh to form a new single member ward.
Weaverham Parish Council has been in contact and are very keen for Acton Bridge to be included in their suggestion of one ward consisting of Weaverham, Cuddington and Acton Bridge.
All three options were discussed and assessed. The view was formed that the existing ward gives the best balance of common interests, rural community activities and existing links. The ward has, for Acton Bridge, the large population group of Weaverham, which is the focal point for local schools, churches, shops etc, on one side and several rural villages, mostly along the banks of the River Weaver, on the other. This gives the ward, from Acton Bridge point of view, a fair balance.
It was noted that the existing Weaver ward structure was the also the proposal by CW&C to the Boundary Committee.
It was the unanimous opinion of the Parish Council that the Parish stay in the existing ward and this then was the resolution to be put forward to the Boundary Committee for 4th August. Weaverham and Cuddington PCs to be informed.
