Flower Club members were delighted with the festive door wreaths and Christmas table decorations that they created under the guidance of Dianne Leigh, a professional florist who has been giving flower arranging lessons to WI members recently.

WI members, their partners and senior citizens enjoyed a delicious hot meal at the Christmas Party cooked by Karen of Pamela's Cheshire Caterers. The local Brownies provided seasonal entertainment before the meal with poems and songs, then after the meal the entertainment was provided by a group of local WI members under the direction of Caroline Young and Veronica Oliver. It gave an amusing snapshot into WI through the decades through songs, monologues and sketches, including the stereotype of the jam and chutney maker to the Calendar Girls who bared all (well not exactly!), and ABBA lookalikes. Tony Mullett accompanied the songs on the piano. The entertainment concluded with an austerity pantomime. Judging by the laughter from the audience it was all well received.

In January Margaret Emsley gave an inspiring talk about her life as a civil engineer. Despite being thought of as a career for men rather than women, back many years ago, she persisted and found it a challenging but fulfilling career. She now works as an academic, encouraging young people to get involved in civil engineering projects.

In February members were both puzzled and amazed by Peter Turner's sleight of hand as he performed various tricks and used distraction in his talk, "Through the Eyes of a Magician". Even those who were stood really close to his hand did not see what happened to the brightly coloured handkerchief.

The Walking Group went to Lymm to follow an Urban Trail. The Flower Arranging class learned how to arrange a hand-held bouquet. Another group went to see a performance of Amy's View at the Harlequin Theatre. The Book Club are meeting at Pam Hall's house, and the Craft Club are due to discuss a new project.
