Welcome to Acton Bridge Women's Institute

Report from Acton Bridge WI February 2016

Another well attended meeting, including three more members, gathered to hear the grower and garden designer Jane Allison give an enthusiastic and fluent talk about "Making the Most of Your Garden Space". She had brought a wide range of slides showing some of her garden designs both as plans and as the finished planted up spaces. Members were particularly interested in the stories that lay behind some of them, and the "hideous" design problems she had been asked to overcome. She was keen to encourage us, and was happy to answer members' questions. She also brought a number of more unusual plants for sale and we look forward to seeing them in our gardens during the year.

The President, Veronica Oliver, introduced a number of members who reported on the many activities that have taken place this month. Both the new Book Club and the Craft Group are now under way. The first book chosen is Vera Brittain's "Testament of Youth" which will be discussed on Tuesday 22nd March at the next meeting. The Craft Group are working on some decorative Christmas bunting, whilst the banner made last year is now being displayed at every meeting. The visits to the theatre and to the Northwich Barons Quay development had been very well attended and much enjoyed. The correspondence included a letter of thanks from the Neuro-muscular Centre for the stamps we had collected for them. They will go towards the £900,000 the centre needs to raise each year.

The next meeting will be at 7.30pm on Tuesday 8th March in the Parish Rooms as usual, when Anna Alexander will talk about "Child Labour in Warrington in the Nineteenth Century". Visitors are always very welcome. Further details of all our activities can be found on the website at www.actonbridge.org
