Acton Bridge WI - Report of November 2015 Meeting
An earlier start to their meeting allowed Acton Bridge WI to conduct their business meeting and AGM before introducing their speaker. The President, Judy Pardoe, welcomed everyone and explained the sad absence of both the Treasurer and the Secretary, as a result of family bereavements. They had, however, left full notes for the meeting for which we were very grateful. Jane had prepared a statement of the results of Acton Bridge WI's highly successful Autumn Fest in September, and Judy thanked all the members again for all their hard work, and the CFWI Chairman's thanks and congratulations were also added to hers. The reprinted Recipe Books are now available for sale. Jenny suggested a number of ideas, including a trip to see the newly released film "The Lady in the Van" and a visit to be shown round the new Barons Quay development in Northwich.
During the AGM, two more members were proposed to join the existing committee, and they and the Treasurer and Secretary were all confirmed unanimously in their positions. The members also decided to continue with the system of a rotational Presidency that they have followed in recent years, as no member of the committee was able to take on the role for the whole year, but six are available to share the role between them.
After the AGM, Judy introduced Tony Vine, who gave a talk on "Fossils".
An enthusiast for his subject, he gave an outline of the changes the world had undergone since its beginning, and had brought a number of fossils to illustrate his points. He passed around some very brightly coloured slivers of polished stone with a marbled and speckled colouring. Members were surprised to be told this was fossilised dinosaur dung! After questions, he joined members for tea and delicious cakes provided by Ann Crute and Elizabeth Wakeford.
The President reminded members that the next meeting is the Christmas Party, which is on December 8, at the earlier time of 6pm. Invitations were being distributed to members and senior Acton Bridge villagers, and she reminded them to send in their replies or regrets by the November 27 deadline.
