Welcome to Acton Bridge Women's Institute

ACTON BRIDGE WI
Meeting held October 9th 2007

Members of Acton Bridge WI enjoyed an inspiring talk by Judy Townsend describing her life since being found as a baby in a bag on the biggest rubbish dump in Malaysia. Strictly brought up in an orphanage run by missionaries, she said how grateful she was for the important lessons they had taught her, especially the difference between right and wrong. Laughter and even some singing peppered her talk as members warmed to her theme of moving forward positively through life.

The President, Sue Williams, reported on the Cheshire WI Federation's Autumn Meeting. The National WI AGM is to be held in Liverpool next June, during the city's year as European Capital of Culture, and Ben Fogle had clearly sent many hearts fluttering when he spoke during the afternoon.

Two members, Christine Turton and Veronica Oliver, also addressed the meeting, looking for households in the village willing to join their local campaign as part of the global action plan to reduce personal carbon footprints. At the end of the 4 month project they will provide feedback on how much waste, carbon dioxide and water has been saved through the programme. The project is open to all the village. Several members signed up immediately.

The next meeting will be the formal AGM on Tuesday November 13th, starting at 7pm. Members are asked to bring items that mean something special to them for a bring and tell session on the theme of "My Heirloom / Keepsake."
