The President, Sue Williams, congratulated all the members who had supported the very successful Autumn Soup and Sandwich Lunch in the village. She welcomed two new members, Stephanie Heighton and Carmel Peach, and announced the date for a village Produce Show, to be organised jointly by the WI and the Acton Bridge Community Association on Saturday 6 September 2008. Two WI members are spearheading the village Eco Team effort, with a full complement of families signed up to it. She also commented on the complaints being made in the village about the amount of inappropriately heavy, and speeding, traffic that had been using our narrow roads.

The AGM re-elected Sue Williams as President and Catherine Painter as Treasurer, and the Committee was increased by the election of two further members, Judy Pardoe and Jane Evans. No-one has yet come forward to fill the vacant post of Secretary. The Treasurer presented her Financial Statement, showing that after this year's successes, there will not be a need for a special fund-raising effort in the coming year. The President thanked her on behalf of the members for taking over and managing the finances so efficiently, in spite of all her other commitments at work and with a young child. She then addressed the meeting herself, thanking members for their, and the committee's, support in her first year.

The next meeting will be the Christmas party, on Tuesday December 11th, starting at 6.00pm. The first meeting of 2008 will be held in the Parish Rooms as usual at 7.30pm on Tuesday January 8th, when Tony and Rosemary Mullett will be giving a slide show about New Zealand.
